Tablet Sales in India Grows Modestly; Samsung Has Most Marketshare

Tablet shipments to India seem to have slowed down. In the July- September quarter of 2013, about 1.2 million tablets were sold, recording a growth of 9% year on year and a 4.7% quarterly increase, according to a new report.

The CMR India Quarterly Tablet PC Market Review for the third quarter said that 1,204,410 Tablets were sold (shipped) in the quarter by as many as 43 domestic and international vendors

Only thirteen vendors shipped in significant volumes of more than 20,000 units during the period, the report said.

Among brands, Samsung leads the market, with Lenovo and Datawind coming in at #2 and #3 respectively. The top five vendors account for 58.7% of all tablet shipments and enterprise tablets market accounts for nearly 20% of total shipments.

According to a study by TechSci Research, the tablet market in India is set to cross $2 bn by 2013. A previous report in July, by the manufacturers association in India, pegged overall tablet sales for the year 2012-13 at 1.9 mn units, indicating a year over year growth of 424%.
