Social Media Battle: Indians Use Facebook 2.4 Times More Than Twitter, Reveals Study

According to a study conducted by IMRB, Facebook has Pan-India presence and has almost 2.4 times more users in India than social micro blogging site Twitter and around 2 times more usage than video sharing website YouTube. The number of people on Facebook in the non-top eight metros is more than twice that of the top eight cities.

TRAI is now set to reject differential pricing of data services which would put a final end to all the platforms like Airtel Zero and Free Basics. Aiming, to uphold digital democracy the body is likely to order an issue this week which will put all these practices to rest.

Net Neutrality: TRAI Extends Deadline For Comments To January 7

TRAI has extended the deadline for receiving comments on its differential pricing for data services, by a week. The earlier deadline was December 30th. TRAI has received 16.5 lakh comments. It received 8 lakh comments through Free Basics and zero rating platforms and about 3,000 individual messages.

Microsoft Too Goes Against Free Basics

Microsoft India Chairman, Bhaskar Pramanik said, “I don’t think what Facebook is doing is about net neutrality; it is about helping first-time users get on the Internet and they should call it that. But to muddy it and say that it is also net neutral doesn’t make sense.”

Reliance Suspends Free Basics On GSM Network; Will Run On Its CDMA Network

The company had recently started the CDMA testing and informed TRAI after which the commercial roll out of the service was stopped, an official from the company said. A consultation paper by TRAI will be put up for responses from December 28 to January 4, after which a call will be taken on Free Basics.
