The two bigwigs of the pre-bust era have been acquired – certainly a big news for Indian product companies.
The deal size is not yet known but am sure Talisma got the deserved valuation.
nGenera will incorporate the complete Talisma CIM suite of applications as a set of composite on-demand applications into its customer offering – Talisma’s product suite will be integrated with nGenera’s web2.0 , SaaS offering that includes collaboration tools like blogs, discussion threads, wikis, interest groups etc.
2. Old news, but fits the context – MindTree acquired majority stake in Aztecsoft [pdf]
MindTree acquired 32.57% in Aztec for Rs. 117 crore (Rs. 80/share @ valuation of $90mn). MindTree will also announce an open offer to Aztecsoft’s public shareholders to purchase up to an additional 20% equity ownership interest.
Both of these companies were the initial players in software product space from India and after the 9/11 bust, they changed tracks (esp. Aztec, as it ended up becoming an outsourcing company, and ditched the earlier ASP avatar).
Consolidation in the Indian IT Industry is bound to happen and OPD (outsourced product development) companies are attracting good valuation – and the timing is right (i.e. sell before the next bust hits the software space).
