The Tamil Nadu government has announced their plans to provide IPTV with high-speed optical fiber connections to more than 70 lakh potential subscribers at an ‘affordable’ price by early next year.
Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa announced in the Assembly that the services shall be provided by leveraging the ISP license obtained by the Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation.
Jayalalithaa said that Arasu Cable TV Corporation has already signed an MoU with Railtel to roll out the plan. With contribution from the Centre under the Bharatnet scheme, more than 12,000 village panchayats will be linked through optical fiber connections.
The bandwidth requirements will be purchased from international players while Arasu Cable TV Corporation has revealed Pricewaterhouse Coopers as their consultants for managerial support to prepare a new business plan.
