Exclusive: Tell-a-Friend Plugin goes multi-lingual, Launches Ad Widget for Banner Ads

Tell-a-Friend (TAF) plugin, the social widget plugin is launching the next version of the product (@ Ad-Tech conference on April 21st). The product, within 7 months of launch has grabbed 37,000 publishers and has served 570 million buttons views(via).
Some of the new features (much-needed improvements) are:

  • Multi-lingual support – launching with 6 languages
  • A single account can have multiple widgets
  • One can change the order of the tabs in the widget, change the order of the services in each tab, and selectively switch off bookmarking services
  • Self-branding – design widget themes, upload your own button and email template

While these features may sound like a normal release, the bigger story (which will be announced at the Ad-Tech conference on April 21st) is the introduction of TAF4 Ads, a new patent pending word of mouth advertising solution that enables site owners to monetize their existing Pay-Per-Click banner and display ads.

The biggest benefit of TAF4 Ads is the fact that it empowers the site’s visitor to send ordinary banner or display ads off-page with just a click of the mouse by email to a friend or family member that they think will be interested in the goods or services advertised.  This introduces a whole new way for advertisers, publishers, site operators and ad networks to monetize their existing Pay-Per-Click ad inventory and creates real social graph advertising.

Using the widget, one can directly do a Tell-a-Friend from the Ad banner itself and the advertisment reaches the potential customer of the promotion – pure call-to-action on banner ads which will result in qualified leads/better conversion for advertisers.

I do expect the ad widget to get whole lotta love from banner advertisers/social media advertisers who want to rely on WoM, and at the same time are restricted by effective measurement tactics from traditional world.
