Tim Cook had made a visit to China to meet the company heads of Didi Chuxing, in which Apple invested $1 billion. Now according to reports, he is also visiting India and plans to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This will be his first official visit to the country as the head of Apple.
Apple has been trying to bring exclusive stores to India, intending to increase its reach. However, the company has been facing hurdles with approvals from the Government.
However, the Indian Government’s committee has now announced that it will exempt Apple from sourcing norms under the ‘state of art tech’ category (source). This move will allow the US based company to open single-brand retail stores in India.
Moreover for a while the announcement of the setup of Apple’s local manufacturing plant has been pending, which the company has been planning in partnership with Foxconn.
Apple has also been trying to sell refurbished devices in the Indian market which was opposed by the Government recently.
