TimesDeal faked its own leak and the CEO even went on to say that the leak was actually accidental (though the IP address from where all such deal threads emerged belonged to Indiatimes’ Gurgaon office).
Post the successful field trial (i.e. the leak), the company has now launched the new avatar, which we showcased when we covered the leak ‘feature’.
The new avatar, like we said earlier has made all the deals free for consumers – i.e. you don’t need to pay any upfront fee (unlike any other deal site).
Big deal? May not be – but this will surely add to the woes of other daily deals businesses, as they collect an upfront payment as part of the process and if marketed well, consumers will start downloading more and more of coupons (with no intent to redeem).
Smart marketing strategy? Well, yes. It’s actually brilliant!
