To Boost Digital Payments, Centre Announces Cash Incentives For District Collectors

In an effort to boost digital payments in the country, NITI Aayog, Government of India’s policy think-tank, has announced to give district collectors Rs 10 as a reward for every individual who has shifted to electronic payment in his or her jurisdiction.

“NITI Aayog has enlisted a series of incentives for the communication campaign for the district authorities and administration to promote the transition to the cashless digital payment systems,” and will transfer Rs 5 lakh for every district in the country as seed money to kick start this drive, said NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant.

To avail the reward, the district collector, would have to ensure that individuals should do at least two successful transactions by either Unified Payment Interface (UPI), Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD), Aadhaar Enabled Payments, e-wallets or Rupay debit/credit/prepaid cards.

The top ten performing districts will be awarded the Digital Payment Champions of India Award by NITI Aayog/Government of India.
