Traders body ask for a ban on Amazon and Flipkart’s annual festive sales

An Indian traders’ organization, CAIT, wants a blanket ban on both Amazon and Flipkart’s sales which offer discount ranging from 10%-80%. The association claimed that it creates an uneven competition thus violates the law.

These grand annual week-long sales are held during key Hindu festivals like Diwali and Dussehra.

Though it is unlikely that any action will be taken before the upcoming sales this year, it may force the government to form policy around them.

Last year the e-commerce rules were modified stopping the online marketplaces to sell products of their own brands, forcing them to re-structure their ownership and agreements with key vendors.
