The telecom regulator is seeking tech solutions to prevent unsolicited automatic video downloads without consumers’ consent on some websites and social media platforms, leading to large data charges.
Trai Chairman R S Sharma said that TRAI is looking out for some technology solution to tackle the problem, instead of initiating any regulatory regime to tackle the menace.
“This (video download) is a very serious problem. Even before a consumer hits data download button on site, video content is being downloaded…If it is possible to have some tools, technologies awareness campaigns by which this problem can be reduced or mitigated we will be happy to take that road,” he said.
