Started by ex-googlers, Trol.ly is a social commerce startup that focuses on bringing social (read: Facebook) to ecommerce websites.
Hop to Trol.ly’s Facebook app, and start playing ‘Guess the Price’ game.
Keep playing and once you earn 500 points, you can redeem them for appropriate discount coupons. The monetization model it seems is a mix of lead generation and commission (has partnerships with Playgroundonline, BuythePrice and Eureka Forbes).
The company has added Alok Kejriwal to the board (as advisor) and plans to expand to verticals like travel, entertainment and media industries.
If you look at the concept, this adds a bit of fun (i.e. game) and a sense of ‘I can haz discount’ and that’s where it’s a much better implementation (the current version has jagged edges) than just being an aggregator of deal sites.
What’s your take on trol.ly?
Aside, it’s always fun to see Google hiring on Facebook and Googlers building products on Facebook!
