Swedish app company, TrueCaller is having a great run in India. Apart from doing a deeper integration with Twitter, the company claims to have hit 22 million users in India.
And now, we have confirmed sources telling us that the TrueCaller has raised funding from Sequoia Capital India. While the funding details aren’t known, this is an interesting development if you look at the context of LightSpeed investing in PhoneWarrior, NCR based startup building a globally-relevant cloud-based platform to crowdsource mobile phone numbers.
Given the growth in the India’s smartphone market, India could be TrueCaller’s true calling. Just in 9 months, the company has managed to increase it’s active userbase from 1 million to 22 million, i.e. 55% of TruCaller’s current userbase.
TrueCaller earlier raised $1.3mn from Open Ocean Capital in Sep 2012 and boasts of 40 million users globally.
