Twitter is the new collaboration platform and while Twitter founders figure out the revenue model for the company, others are bringing the concept of Twitter, i.e. microblogging into enterprise and minting money.
Companies like Yammer have a sort of first mover advantage in the enterprise world, but they do leave a lot to ask for. For instance, connectors to talk to one’s backend system (say SAP/Siebel etc) and this is where lies an opportunity for other players.
Platform46, Australia/Bangalore based startup is banking on it’s ‘Connector Framework’ to present information gathered from enterprise systems in the most usable form.
To start off, Platform46 has built connectors for Zoho CRM and DropBox enabling users to get live feed from these systems (apart from the regular Twitter like ‘what are you doing’ feeds).
When it comes to collaboration, there are enormous challenges with enterprise industry and most of the collab tools (like wiki etc) have failed to live up to the expectation. Maybe microblogging has a chance?
