Twitter offers several ways to users to access its service. There’s a Web version that you can check through any web browser, mobile apps for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry and others, and for those who don’t have data connection available all the time, Twitter lets you access its service using SMS.
But for some reason, the text feature isn’t available for Indian users at the moment.
At first it seemed like a glitch, since in the settings, under mobile section, you can still find all the leading carriers name. However, no matter which carrier you choose, you will receive an error saying, “Sorry, we don’t have a connection to your carrier yet!”. Thanks to this issue, users won’t be able to get text notifications on their phones.
However, it seems more than a glitch, as none of the Indian carriers are listed in Twitter’s supported mobile carriers. This issue is big. No support to local carriers means you won’t be able to have your phone linked to your account. This way, technically, you won’t be able to avail two-step-authentication — or basically, use your phone number to reset password or confirm your identity.
We’ve reached out to Twitter representatives for comments, and shall update this post when we have more information.
