Uber has announced that it will begin accepting debit card payments for riders in India after reintroducing credit card payments mid-last month.
The feature will go online across 18 cities in India, with the procedure for adding and paying via a debit card being similar to that of paying via a credit card.
In order to pay via debit card, users will have to head to the account menu and tap ‘Payment’ under it and choose ‘Add Payment’.
Users will then be allowed to fill in their debit card details or scan card for the details to be automatically entered.
At the end of a trip, the user will see a Pay Now button that triggers 2-factor authentication where users will be asked to key in their OTP or iPIN.
Uber now accepts credit cards, debit cards and even payments through PayTM wallet. Card payments on Uber are powered by MobiKiwk.
Apart from debit card, credit card and digital wallet payments in India, Uber is testing cash payments in the country to rival Ola and Meru.
