A 51-year-old Uber cab driver, Kuldeep Thakur, was murdered by two juvenile passengers who got into a raging argument with the driver and shot him during the ride. Both 17-year-old passengers allegedly pumped bullets on Kuldeep and dumped his body in an open field in west Delhi’s Mundka area. The incident had occurred on Wednesday and came to light only on Saturday.
Police tracked the booking and passenger data through Uber and during an investigation, it was found that Kuldeep’s cab was last booked by a youth from south-west Delhi’s Najafgarh for Hiran Kudna village. Soon Police pinned on the culprits who confessed to their crime.
The victim’s relatives have alleged that Uber failed to honour during the initial phase of the investigation and did not support the family at all. The relatives also alleged that Uber had “deleted” Kuldeep’s name and other details from its database.
However, Uber denied these charges and said in a statement that, “Our thoughts are with the family of our driver-partner, the victim of this mindless violence. We have pro-actively shared details with the police to assist them with their investigation.”
