Chinese mobile browser, UCWeb grabs 18% market share in India

The Chinese browser,UCWeb which launched in India in November 2011 has seen an unprecedented growth over the last few months – so much so that the browser is among the top 3 browsers in India and if the growth story continues, it could even beat Nokia browser*.

We earlier reported how Android browser which has been growing substantially globally failed to make its mark in India – and here, a new entrant is able to garner close to 17% market share (as of March, 2012*) within 6 months of the launch.


In terms of browser market share, India has 2nd largest Opera Mini userbase in the World and ibibo browser claims more than 6 million downloads.

UCWeb, however claims to have an average speed over 50% higher than those of other mobile browsers in 3G network, and up to 30% faster than other mobile browsers when accessing Internet in WIFI environment (claims to save up to 90% of the traffic consumption when user browsing the Internet).
