A proposal offering six months’ maternity leave to women under Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Bill has been approved by Union cabinet, doubling the leave period.
The 12 weeks’ maternity benefits will also be given to all adopting and commissioning mothers. The ministry of women had initially proposed 8 months, which was later scaled to six months.
