Union Environment Ministry diverged over 5,000 hectares of Karnataka’s forest land since 2008

  • More than 5,048 hectares of forest land in Karnataka have been diverged for non-forestry purposes revealed Government data.
  • Across India 305,945 hectares have been redirected via 17,301 projects under the Forest Conservation Act from 2008 to 2023.
  • Punjab saw the greatest diversion at 61,318 hectares, while Karnataka’s diverted area is primarily used for defense, industry, mining, irrigation, etc.
