Amazon and Reliance Are in Conflict Over IPL Media Rights

Amazon's rivalry in India with oil-to-retail conglomerate Reliance Industries looks set to head to the cricket field.

Both company will likely battle media heavyweights for telecast rights to India's premier cricket league with its hundreds of millions of viewers.

To date, Disney owned Star India along with Sony paid 163.48 billion rupees for digital and television rights to IPL.

Traditional media firms are now facing heavy competition from deep-pocketed conglomerates like Reliance and Amazon.

Both Amazon and Reliance were previously at odds over future retail takeover. A future conflict may unfold very soon over IPL media Rights.

Amazon, whose Prime Video platform recently began live-streaming cricket matches, wants to win the IPL rights to increase subscription to its platform.
