Budget 2023: Railway allocated Rs 2.40 lakh crore, the highest ever

With a capital budget of Rs 2.40 lakh crore, Nirmala Sitharaman has proposed the biggest-ever push for Indian Railways.

It is an increase of 65.6% over the previous fiscal year and is nine times greater than the allocation for railroads in 2013–14.

"The Indian Railways capital outlay has been set at 2.40 lakh crore, highest ever; 9x of what was in 2013," Sitharaman said.

The funds will be used, among other things, for station facilities, electrification, and railroad tracks.

The ministry of railways is aiming for full electrification by 2023, more Vande Bharat trains and construction of 2,000 km of tracks.
