Byun Hee Bong from Okja passes away at 81

Veteran actor Byun Hee Bong, 81, passed away. He was previously diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which had reportedly relapsed.

Byun started his career as a voice artist in 1966 and later made significant contributions in Korean cinema over five decades.

He is best remembered for his work with director Bong Joon Ho, beginning with the 2000 film 'Barking Dogs Never Bite'.

His popular works include 'The Host', 'Okja', 'Memories of Murder', 'Eunuch', and 'Volcano High'. He played a variety of roles on TV shows.

Byun was diagnosed with cancer during his involvement with K-drama 'Mr Sunshine' and publicly shared his health scare in 2018.

The actor believed his timely health check and cancer diagnosis, linked to his casting in the show, saved his life.
