The COVID-19 booster dose has not been recommended by the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) of CDSCO despite demands

The SEC has also requested more information from The Serum Institute of India (SII) to hold another meeting

In today's meeting SEC reviewed the application of the Serum Institute of India (SII) for the booster dose

The SII had sought authorisation to deliver the booster dosage of its Covishield vaccine amid the introduction of the new COVID variant Omicron and demand

UK's Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency has already approved the booster dose of AstraZeneca

In India, many experts have advocated a booster dose, particularly since advent of omnicron. However, the government has yet to make a decision.

The Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) also stated in a clarification statement that they have never advised a booster dose.
