Curfew imposed in 10 police station limits in Jodhpur over communal tensions

At least 16 people, including four policemen, were injured in violent clashes between two communities at Jalori gate area of Jodhpur late on Monday night

Problem started when members of minority community put up a flag on a roundabout alongside the statue of freedom fighter Balmukund Bissa.

This led to a confrontation as some people alleged that a saffron flag which they had put up at the same roundabout ahead of Parshuram Jayanti, had gone missing.

The issue soon snowballed and the two groups indulged in stone pelting and clashes

Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot described communal tensions in Jodhpur unfortunate and directed officials to take stern action against those responsible for it.

A criminal, irrespective of his religion, caste or class, must not be spared, the CM told officials addressing a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister's Office.

Curfew was imposed in 10 police stations of Jodhpur city on Tuesday after communal tension broke out.

Udai Mandir, Nagori Gate, Khanda Phalsa, Pratap Nagar, Dev Nagar, Soor Sagar and Sardarpura are among the police stations limits where the curfew has been imposed until May 4 midnight, according to the police control room.
