EC reschedules Punjab assembly elections, to be held on February 20

The Election Commission announced the schedule of the assembly elections to be held in five states on January 8

EC Announced dates of Punjab Polls To be held on 14 February At First.

Later on Punjab CM Wrote to EC Suggesting to defer Punjab Polls at least 6 days in view of Guru Ravidas Jayanti.

Guru Ravidas Jayanti celebrations, observed on 16th February 2022, might see the movement of a large number of devotees from Punjab to Varanasi.

keeping the poll day on 14th February “will deprive a large number of electors from voting”, the EC noted.

So EC on Monday postponed the date of the Punjab assembly election from February 14 to February 20.
