US F-35 fighter jet missing in USA after mid-flight emergency

A US Marine Corps fighter jet (F-35 Lightning II) has gone missing in South Carolina.

The pilot safely ejected the aircraft on Sunday after a 'mishap'.

The military is seeking public help to locate the missing multimillion-dollar plane.

Search operations are underway around two lakes north of the city of Charleston.

Local congresswoman Nancy Mace questioned the absence of a tracking device on such an expensive aircraft.

The lost planes, produced by Lockheed Martin, are valued at around $80 million each.
