The strike notices were given by workers' unions of various sectors such as coal, steel, oil, telecom, postal, income tax, copper, banks and insurance.

Some of the essential services related to banking, transportation, railways and electricity are expected to be impacted during a two-day nationwide strike.

Unions in railways and the defence sector will carry out mass mobilisation in support of the strike at several places, the joint forum of central trade unions said.

Union workers and political activists blocked rail tracks and highways at many places in Bengal on Monday in support of the Bharat Bandh.
