International Mother Language Day: Celebration of linguistic diversity

Every year on February 21, the International Mother Language Day is observed.

The promotion of multilingualism and linguistic and cultural diversity worldwide is honoured through the day.

The celebration fosters multilingualism in society and the sustainable preservation of traditional knowledge and customs.

Bangladesh was the country to propose the first recognition of International Mother Language Day.

In 1999, it received approval from UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization.
