IPL 2022 : R Ashwin became the first cricketer to be retired out in the history of IPL
KNOW ABOUT THE RULE
Ravichandran Ashwin has often made headlines for speaking or doing such things at cricket fields that are in favour of MCC rulebooks
The 35-year-old player did another tactical move against LSG for his side RR when he has been ‘retired out’ (not retired hurt) for 23-ball 28.
On the third ball of the 19th over, Ashwin dragged the ball to the covers and completed a single but he did not stop running and went to the dressing room
Ashwin walked into bat at No. 6 when the RR were struggling at 67/4 in 9.5 overs. He rebuilt the innings with Shimron Hetmyer
They added 68 runs for the fifth wicket before Ashwin decided to return to pavilion to be dismissed as 'retired out' after 18.4 overs.
He was batting on 28 off 23 balls, and gave the opportunity to Riyan Parag to finish off the innings. RR posted 165/5 on the scoreboard at the end
According to the International Cricket Council (ICC) rules, a batsman can be ‘retired out’ during a dead ball situation after informing the on-field umpires.
Overall, Ashwin is the 4th batsman to be dismissed in this manner in T20s with Shahid Afridi, Bhutan’s Sonam Tobgay and Bangladesh’s Sunzamul Islam
Once during IPL Ravi Ashwin ran out Jos Buttler at the non-striker's end (Makand) in the Rajasthan Royals' opener against Kings XI Punjab and surprised everyone
