Jacinda Ardern to step down as New Zealand prime minister
Jacinda Ardern, the prime minister of New Zealand, made the unexpected revelation that she would be leaving her post.
Jacinda Ardern said at her party's annual meeting that she
"no longer had enough in the tank"
to carry out her duties.
“I’m leaving, because with such a privileged role comes responsibility,"
she said.
She added,
“I am human, politicians are human. We give all that we can for as long as we can. And then it’s time. And for me, it’s time.”
Jacinda Ardern's term as prime minister will conclude no later than February 7.
