Landslide in Raigad district village leaves 16 dead

A landslide decimated a village, barring five homes, first reported by a local boy who alerted the nearest police station.

Local organizations, NDRF personnel, and volunteers from surrounding districts arrived to aid in rescue operations.

Rescue parties had to navigate treacherous conditions on foot to reach the site as adverse weather made using machinery impossible.

Operations were ceased due to fear of further landslides and concerns about the unknown number of people potentially still trapped.

Additional personnel were deployed and machinery attempted to be airlifted to expedite rescue and minimize the potential death toll.

Notable figures, like the chief minister and home minister, visited the site and provided support; victims will be rehabilitated and given an ex-gratia compensation.
