Nolan reduced Oppenheimer filming days to boost budget for Los Alamos
Christopher Nolan sacrificed filming time on "Oppenheimer" to boost the budget for production design and recreate Los Alamos.
Originally planned for 85 days, the filming of "Oppenheimer" was completed in just 57 days, a significantly shorter time frame.
Given the extensive shooting locations across US and the need to construct Los Alamos from scratch, the budget constraints posed a challenge.
Nolan encouraged the production designer, Ruth De Jong, to design without worrying about costs.
It leads to a budget estimate of $20 million for constructing the town of Los Alamos.
Cillian Murphy, who stars in the film, described the fast-paced production as intense.
