Parag, aged 37, is an IIT Mumbai alumnus . He completed his further studies from US with his doctorate coming from Stanford University. He did his schooling from Atomic Energy Central School.
Parag joined Twitter in 2011. Prior to that he worked for a short period at Microsoft, AT&T and Yahoo. Where his work was mostly research-oriented.
Parag Agrawal served as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) since October 2017. He looked after Twitter's technical strategy, advancing machine learning etc.
In an email Dorsey wrote about Parag that board unanimously appointed him and he has been his choice for some time, given how deeply he understands the company and its needs.
At Twitter, as CTO, Parag has been instrumental in "Twitter's technical strategy and overseeing machine learning and AI across the consumer, revenue, and science teams."
Parag Agrawal has become the fourth Indian to run a Silicon Valley company after Microsoft's Satya Nadella, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Adobe CEO Santanu Narayan and IBM Group CEO Arvind Krishna.
Parag was born in Mumbai. A report, quoting his thesis adviser, says that he has a particularly good grasp of mathematics and has expertise in dealing with large databases.
Parag will receive $1 million in annual compensation and $12.5 million in stock compensation as CEO of Twitter, according to the company.
