Republic Day 2023: Celebrating India's 74th Republic Day on January 26

India's Constitution went into effect on January 26, 1950, which has become a national holiday.

Although the Constitution was officially adopted by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949, it was really prepared far earlier than the date chosen.

The historic "Poorna Swaraj" proclamation was formally promulgated on January 26, 1930, ushering in the final stage of India's liberation movement.

From 1930 till India finally won its independence in 1947, January 26 was celebrated as “Independence Day” or “Poorna Swaraj Day.”
