The home currency was trading at 77.28 a Dollar at 9.10 am, hitting a record low.
The rupee opened at 77.06 and touched a low of 77.31 a dollar.
The last time the rupee hit a low, it was on March 7, 2022, when the rupee touched 76.98 against the dollar.
Global markets fell as traders questioned whether the Federal Reserve's interest rate hike was enough to tackle inflation.
Chinese leaders warning against doubting their zero-COVID stance are also contributing to the ongoing economic situation.
