Shake It Off copyright suit against Taylor Swift dropped

A lawsuit claiming Taylor Swift plagiarized lyrics for her 2014 number-one hit Shake It Off have been dropped by two lyricists.

Federal court in Los Angeles was informed by Sean Hall and Nathan Butler that they will dismiss their 2017 case with prejudice.

A trial in the case had been scheduled to begin Jan. 17.

Hall and Butler used the phrases "playas, they gonna play, and haters, they gonna hate" in their song "Playas Gon' Play."

Released in 2001, the song by R&B group 3LW debuted on the Billboard Hot 100.

In August, Swift said in court that prior to writing Shake It Off, she had never heard the song by 3LW.
