Tamil New Year 2022: Here Are Some Facts About Puthandu

Puthandu or Tamil New Year is celebrated every year by the members of the Tamil community across the world.

The auspicious day is observed on the first day of the Tamil month Chithirai. This year, the date falls on the 14th April.

Puthandu is celebrated by Tamil Hindus in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Tamil diaspora in countries like Sri Lanka, Singapore, and Mauritius also celebrate the day.

People of Tamil origin clean and decorate their homes and prepare a tray with fruits, and flowers on this day.

Just like every other holy day, people wear new clothes and children seek blessings from elders.

One of the most beautiful parts of this festival is family members sitting together for a vegetarian feast on this day.
