Tennis star Sania Mirza retires after facing defeat at WTA Dubai

After losing to a Russian pair 4-6, 0-6 with American partner Madison Keys, Sania Mirza declared her retirement from international tennis.

Sania was regarded as a trailblazer for women in sport during her illustrious 20-year career, during which she won 43 WTA doubles titles.

By taking on the role of mentor to the RCB in the WPL, she recently added another chapter to her career.

The 36-year-old, who went pro in 2003, has won six Grand Slam tournaments to her name.

She was the first Indian woman of any age to win a WTA title when she was just 17 years old.
