A United Democratic Front (UDF) wave drowned the Left front in the Assembly byelection for Thrikkakara Constituency

Congress candidate Uma Thomas retained the party’s traditional stronghold by registering the highest-ever victory margin in the history of the constituency.

The Left candidate Jo Joseph was trailing from the first round of counting as Uma Thomas won by a margin of 25, 016 votes against him

To become the first woman MLA of the Congress party in the Kerala Legislative Assembly

She broke the record lead of 22, 406 votes bagged by Congress candidate Benny Behanan in 2011 when the constituency came into existence

Jo Joseph won 47, 754 votes while the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate A. N. Radhakrishnan could manage to secure 12, 957 votes only

Uma Thomas crossed the lead of 14, 329 votes won by her husband P. T. Thomas in 2021 even before the counting of votes reached midway.

The byelection was necessitated following the death of senior Congress leader P.T. Thomas on December, 2022
