UEFA Champions League: Villarreal Throws Juventas Out of the League

Villarreal beat Juventus 3-0 in the Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday and ensured their quarterfinals with a 4-1 victory on aggregate.

Gerard Moreno scored the game's opening goal with a penalty on 78 minutes following Daniele Rugani's foul on Francis Coquelin.

This is the first time in 13 years, Europa League champion Villarreal advanced to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

For three seasons in a row, Juventus faced three straight eliminations at home in the Champions League round of 16.

Including a quarterfinal defeat to Ajax in 2019, it's the fourth straight time that Juventus has been knocked out after a home second-leg match.

At the start of the second half, it appeared that Villarreal was content to sit back and defend. But when Moreno came on, the momentum shifted.
