Messaging service WeChat, owned by Chinese Internet company Tencent, has launched WeChat games. Using the service, WeChat app users can play games, share scores and achievements with their followers on the app. The games currently available for users through their WeChat accounts are Gunz DAsh, 2Days’ Match, Craz3 Match and Pencil Pilot.
The games also have a location based feature for players to share and interact with other players in the same locality. The games are free to download and play and additional features can be bought through in-app purchases.
The company also has tied with online classified service provider AskMe to provide location based classified service for its users through the app, called AskMeSearch. The listings will include local restaurants, deals, classifieds on vehicles, mobile, property, jobs etc.
WeChat has been aggressively trying to market its app in the country through various marketing strategies. The company even roped in Argentina football star Lionel Messi for its TV campaign in India, especially as it is seen as a fast growing smartphone market.
Earlier in 2013 the Chinese messaging platform launched in India by ibibo, WeChat was under the Intelligence Bureau scanner due to security concerns about its Chinese origins.
