West Bengal targets at a complete shift to EVs by 2030

Kolkata’s mayor Firhad Hakim has announced that West Bengal aims to completely shift to electric vehicles by 2030.

He revealed that the state transport corporation aims at increasing the tally of electric buses to 5000 by 2030, in a phased manner. An order for 300 such buses has already been placed, he added.

Apart from buses, the West Bengal transport department is planning to introduce battery powered ferries in Hooghly river replacing the diesel-powered ones.

Kolkata is one of the seven cities to have received C40 award in Copenhagen for green mobility.
