WhatsApp Hits 800mn Monthly Active User Mark [Efforts To Monetize Soon?]

Facebook’s instant messaging app WhatsApp is on a roll, with CEO Jan Koum revealing that the company now has over 800 million monthly active users on its platform.
WhatsApp has been adding roughly 100 million active users every four months, inching closer to its parent company’s 1.4 billion user record.
With WhatsApp recently debuting its much awaited voice calling feature last month, industry watchers expect growth to speed up, allowing the app to hit 1bn active users by the year end.
Mark Zuckerberg has previously said that he expects WhatsApp to contribute to Facebook’s bottom end, however not before the app has over 1 billion users.
If WhatsApp can hit the one billion user mark before the year end, we could see a few strategic announcements from Facebook in order to monetize that user base.
While revenue through advertising isn’t high up on the list of probables, we could expect the company to introduce payment gateways, and turn WhatsApp into a platform similat to what we’re seeing with Messenger.
