Mobile messaging app WhatsApp, has added 5 million users in India over the last three months, crossing a total of 25 million monthly active users. It has over 300 mn users worldwide.
The company’s head of business development, Neeraj Arora told a television channel that its partnership with telecom operator Reliance last year did “phenomenally” well.
In September last year, WhatsApp partnered with Reliance Communications to give free service to college goers. In August, the company said it has 20 mn users in India.
He also ruled out a sale to Google or Facebook. Founders of Whatsapp are particularly averse to advertising. On the Whatsapp blog, its co-founder Jan Koum wrote:
Advertising isn’t just the disruption of aesthetics, the insults to your intelligence and the interruption of your train of thought.
We are simply not interested in any of it (Data), he added.
