Whatsapp To End Support For BlackBerry And Nokia Devices

Whatsapp owned by Facebook has made a major announcement recently that the popular chat messaging platform will end support to few mobile devices including:

  • BlackBerry, including BlackBerry 10
  • Nokia S40
  • Nokia Symbian S60
  • Android 2.1 and Android 2.2
  • Windows Phone 7.1

The reason cited by the company is that 70% of smartphones sold seven years back had operating systems offered by BlackBerry and Nokia but today mobile operating systems offered by Google, Apple and Microsoft –account for 99.5 percent. Thus the company wants to focus only on the popular mobile platforms.

The company also said that these mobile devices, does not have the capabilities to support the features that the company plans to add in the app.
