WhatsApp Claims 70 million Active Users In India
WhatsApp claims to have 70 million active users in India who use the messaging app at least once a month.
How does this stack against userbase of competitors like Line, Hike, Viber and WeChat? Take a look.
– Viber userbase in India (as of Aug, 2014) stands at 25 million.
– Hike claims 35 million userbase (Aug 2014).
– WeChat hasn’t clearly disclosed the numbers, but we looked at their growth and approximated the numbers.
The messaging space is hot. Though one can’t beat WhatsApp like engagement, companies are taking different approaches to drive monetization (for instance, Line is focusing on game developers) and Hike is focused on youth segment (hike raised $65mn recently). Nimbuzz recently sold 70% stake to New Call Telecom.
