Just yesterday, we reported Facebook blocking certain ethnic groups in India because their last name is the same as what Facebook claimed is a Hindi slang. The Information and Broadcasting ministry on the other hand has opened a dedicated account on Facebook to interact with people to create awareness about its plans to digitize the cable sector.
“The Government has launched a new and dedicated Facebook account, namely, DigitalIndiaMIB to facilitate exchange of information and clarifications on a wider canvas of public participation, covering a whole gamut of public concerns,” a statement from the ministry said ET today.
The intention is to inform people about the shift in focus from Analog to Digital Cable. They claim they’ll be responding to questions and have a FAQs section put up.
For your information, the ministry has set an ambitious deadline for complete digitization of the Cable sector by December 31, 2014. In Phase I of this plan, the four metropolitan cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata have to be digitized by June 30 this year.
So those of you who were worried Facebook would be blocked can breathe easy, till the Government is around socializing and poking you for suggestions.
