Wikipedia will open its India office, the first outside US by early 2011 [Wiki foundation’s India chapter will open in Bangalore soon]. The Wiki Foundation chapter has already been registered under the Karnataka Charitable Societies’ Act, though Wikipedia’s India office location is not yet decided.
Editors Exodus Globally?
In November of 2009, there were multiple reports about Wikipedia editors leaving the site and if you look at current statistics, the number of active Wikipedians hasn’t improved.
Among Wikipedians, just under 40 per cent stop contributing after 500 days..The net loss in editors for the English-language version in the first three months of 2009 was 49,000 [source]
Very Active Wikipedians too continue to drop off as well:

Quite clear that Wikipedia needs to grow its contributor base outside US and across different languages.
India operation will help them gain access to new contributors as well as contributors who can bring in local language expertise.
Aside, are Wikipedia editors going through content creation fatigue?
