The Supreme court has issued a notice to the central government and social media companies in relation to the pending cases around linking of Aadhar to social media profiles.
According to the Tamil Nadu government’s argument in the high court, linking valid ID proof to the profile will ensure a curb in fake news, anti-national posts and hate speech, etc.
Facebook earlier had requested all such related cases to be moved to the Supreme court as they deal with “Right to privacy” and that only the Apex court should take a decision on this.
Though the SC has asked the Madras High Court to continue the hearing but not to pass any final order.
