Windows Phone is the second most widely used smartphone platform in India, Microsoft said citing data released by research firm IDC.
With a market share of 5.4% it has managed to maintain the lead over Apple iOS and BlackBerry for the third consecutive quarter, according to the IDC Asia Pacific Mobile Phone Tracker (April – June, 2013).
The platform has marked 60% quarter on quarter growth with second quarter of CY 2013.
As per a study by IDC released in June this year, Samsung is the leader with 32.7% of market share in the smartphone category. Micromax and Karbonn were on second and third position with 18.8% and 10.9% market share. It was followed by Nokia and Sony at 5.9% each.
Apple has seen a steep fall in its iPhone sales in the Q4 2012 in India. In third quarter of 2012, Apple sold 230,000 iPhones in India, which dropped to 120,000 in January- March quarter of 2013.
Meanwhile, Nokia Lumia series has been leading the growth for Microsoft’s Windows platform in India. In total seven Windows Phone devices, namely Nokia Lumia 520, 620, 625, 720, 820, 920 and 925, are available in the country. Lumia series is also helping Nokia regain its lost confidence in market.
Notably, Nokia had sold 5.6 million Lumias in Q1 2013, and 4.4 million Lumias in Q4 2012. As per the Nokia’s first quarter results Lumia sales are slowing picking up steam. It sold 7.4 million Lumia’s in the quarter, a 32% increase quarter on quarter.
